ahhrt
sigh. so i was oh so elated earlier today -- my work got accepted into APAture! And it turns out that they picked my favorite two pieces. so i guess all my compaints about the fraudulent nature of ahhhrt are on hold for now. but i am having a lotta fun dreaming up ideas for my zine table. there will definitely be a cheap art bin, stickers, and if i get cracking, a second edition to my zine. wondering if dirty words written in korean on body parts will fly with the event folks.

rebound

so Mama is officially my rebound dog (still missing sweet crickety-lola-lalo-una-shiva). she was well-behaved on our overnight last night, and had a great time on a dog walk in glen canyon with kehoe.

deflated
somehow, my earlier elation eludes me. mebbe if i write a haiku for jill using only words that begin with "e" i'll cheer up. not sure what it is, perhaps the impending full moon, but i am just heartbroken of late.

lola:lalo:laoa
awww, looks like it's pretty official, crickety-unagi-shiva (now known as lola) is becoming part of miz mrq's happy home. to give you an idea of how happy their home is, here's an aerial shot of their dog bed. Luckily, little Lola won't take much space...

heartache
so hubie's gone [aug 14, 2002 just before 4pm]. sat with him and played and sketched him for an hour or so. the sedatives made him stumbly and heavy. bit unable to fathom the loss. where there once was a doofy clumsy living being, now i only have photos [never enough] and sketches. can only let it in through a tiny crack. too suffocating otherwise. taking comfort in kehoe, bask, little ruby-una-cricketty [who's off getting "tutored" today...gulp!], and some maudlin korean soaps.

the update so far for "Yuri Goodu" [Glass Slipper]: our protagonists [two young sisters -- poor, but with a rich grandfather who has disowned their father because he married the woman he loved] are bereft -- their father is suffering from cancer [or something] and if that's not good enough, he gets hit by a car in a snowstorm [he decides to walk home through a snowstorm...], and their mother died [also in a snowstorm] giving birth to the younger daughter.

so you can see how it's cheering me up, right?

cricket goes kayaking!!!
that's pretty much it, really. missed out on everything yesterday, thanks to a lovely day walking and kayaking with dees. minor glitch: got past half moon bay before we'd realized we'd forgotten the paddles [oops]. bigger glitch: dees got sucked into the mud up to her waist, and i was off lollygagging out of screaming distance [oops oops]. different glitch: kayaks are getting dented from all our banging and shoving it into the truck [time for some cartop options...]. annoyance glitch: missed my martial arts class cuz i was down the coast, trying to hightail it back on time...

ah well, loving the weather, and tho cricket-una-shiva-ruby was a bit frightened by the kayaking [tried to walk on water, and was dismayed to discover that she's not jesus], it sure was fun and cute.

and no crickety tonight :-( she's on her overnight :-) -- perhaps she'll get adopted. will i miss her? well, duh.

literal
well, I keep meaning to get more images into this blog, being a visual artist and all that, but it's just not as easy as blathering on. so, I'm happy to be back into cruising my friend jill's blog [we must see blue crush together! dees has been all psyched to see it. i am rooting for the hawaiian lookin girl to say more than just "be careful!"], and glad to see that bendy is doing better. apparently without any help from me, but no, tis good to be self sufficient...

think this might auger more computer living for me. which is fine. i am sufficiently beaten down by scrambling for werk, and disillusioned enough by dog poop (can a person be "illusioned" by dog poop?) that i am ready to sell out. again.

of course, dees is reading this huge tome on che (as in revolutionary, as in not selling out), and asking me questions like: "are there things you would be willing to die for? would you join an armed struggle? for what?" sigh. and glib broke me can only think of the used clothing i am craving at crossroads (oh, but only if i looked cooler, then i'd feel cooler, and so i'd BE cooler, right?), the apartments i cannot afford, and the damn scraping and werking that i'm lucky to be able to do. but really, what are you willing to live for?

i mean here we sit in a glorious city filled with paradox. for instance, here i sit in my shit shovelling job (uh, not literally, as i'm on break, so don't fire me), yet i've got plenty of privilege -- college edjumacated, job skills (cept being able to clean a fryolator), and so on. but still, what good does it do me or the next person? in what ways can i change the world? i don't think my way is the armed struggle way. pain is way way way too unpleasant, not to mention that fear of death thing. but so how to? something makes me hope that art has something to do with it. but something down to earth and grassroots and honest. none of this elitist crap with museums and art shows. oh, except that i'm waiting (and trying to pretend not to wait) to hear if i got into APAture.

right, that hypocritical thing. aah. life. guess my answer is to be conscious, laugh a whole lot at myself and other people (yes, sometimes it's good to hate), and to work on the small changes and build from there. or something. enough blather for now.

shiva the destroyer
puppy puppy has gotten a few more nicknames over the weekend:
  • shiva the destroyer
  • daisy mayhem
  • unagi [una for short]
as you might've guessed, she's a bit like an eel hiding in the rocks, waiting to wreak havoc and mayhem and destruction. but yes, all in a cute way.

so i'm home sick today, wasting a gorgeous day, but catching up on some email and some blogs. still struggling with my computer, but managing to get by. had a lovely time this weekend -- saw miz mrq and hubbie, along with the best kid in the universe, kirk [can't they all be like him?], and a bigdog chunkers [lovechop!]. still staying relatively low tech lately -- more time with the dogs, less on the computer. well, most of the time.

dees is stressed, as usual. she too has been sick, but keeps on slogging through. we've fired our therapist, and now just spend our weekends together. it's like a long distance relationship without the phone bills. gearing up to re-enter the "real world" workforce, as my money is dribbling out [dare i cash in another retirement account?]. the way i figure it, i could get more hours shoveling shit, but i'd still have to give up eating so much. and you know me. i must have my meat. oh, which was another delightful thing this weekend. steak and ribs for dinner. yum! chris, kirk and i bonded over the existence of a meat sampler plate. i guess this is what they mean by community.
