anno dees
hum. waiting for dees on the *nine* year anniversary of our, ahem, getting to know each other (wink wink nudge nudge). no really, it's been a pretty long road -- maps out my entire adult life, practically. so i'm feeling a little thoughtful today, and rambly (the foggy cold san francisco summer helps). been outta my mind busy this month, and have had various computer ailments (struggling to diagnose and cure them...). reading lotsa lousie erdrich and just got into one flew over the cuckoo's nest -- disturbing, more than slightly racist and sexist.

had a nice lunch and dogwalk with todd, pedro, bask, and kehoe (the dogs did without lunch, but survived to enjoy the walk). this has become this nice little housewifely interlude on my daytimes off. a little chat over chinese food and then a ramble with the hounds. feels so cosy and domestic.

speaking of sari, here's what our illustrious amherst grad had to say about my life (to our tedious alum rag, a source of endless pregnancy and matrimony):
"...she's in San Francisco, does a lot of art, and has a fabulous work life in trans-species communications."
seems that my occupation now has something to do with deciphering transsexual species. i think it's a viable dotcom, don't you? i'll look into purchasing trans-spca.com.

hey, and what's wrong with being a shitshoveler? might have to send in a little blurb on sari. her blurb, of course, was beautifully perfect -- impending progeny, respectably married, and werk at haaah-vard. sigh. she needs something sent in about less respectable proclivities, yes?

lovechop camping
missed the eclipse, dammit, but got in an amazing 4-day weekend of camping for dees' bday. mabel, kehoe, and baskie were in tow and had a fabulous time. mab and keedeehoe adapted quickly to the out-of-doors and romped gleefully for about 48 hours straight before demanding that they be let into the tent (no surprise, mabel is as big a bedhog outside as she is indoors). dees reportedly was thrilled with her weekend, and baskie was his usual wolfie self -- showing the youngsters the ropes in the snow. it took mabel a day or two before she got the hang of napping, but after a 5 hour hike to 9500 feet, she was pretty good at snoozing. the weekend ended with kehoe somehow vomiting all over mabel (gross!) and the back of my truck.

both kehoe and i were happy to get home to a bed and indoor amenities. mabel is still sleepy, but has been busy soaking up extra love from her prospsective new mom (!!!) keep your fingers crossed, and i'll post glorious dog photos here soon.

swallowed by real life
been busy with trying to figure out my life. got my white belt and white stripe (my martial arts school makes you earn your white belt, so it took a coupla months), and then tested onto the hardcore team (which means i get to train twice as much...woohoo). then worked on some projects teaching a coupla art classes for kindergarden and 3rd grade. for about 6-8 hours of classtime, there was about 2 weeks of prep time (by two people!).

then there's been endless wrestling with my powerbook to get it to turn on and not crash. some computer voodoo i don't understand...

and dees and i got kayaks recently -- they even match (oh gag, but so it goes) -- we took them out on a fullmoon kayak the first night, and haven't had time to do much more. they're great, and i can lift mine myself, which was a priority. yep, we got separate kayaks. it's things like that that'll save our relationship.

so now, my goal is to catch up on sleep, projects, and email. roughly in that order. and if all goes well, i'm hoping for a trip to korea this summer, and another 9 years with dees (with any luck we'll celebrate our 9th anniversary -- give or take a year -- in a coupla weeks).
[ok, sari, there's the nutshell. flattered that you -- that anyone -- still reads this thing. even the bendyblog is gone. sigh....]
